Spring begins in the middle of May

Spring begins in the middle of May. The fresh green and the rose-pink blooms of the lraches, as well as the early flowering alpine flowers such as Enzian, Frühlingssafran, blue iron hat, alpine soldane, Frühligsanemonen and stone plants blossom. A multi flower carpet forms.
Before the spring flowers say good-bye in the middle of June begins the bloom of the alpine roses and many other summer flowers such as various lilies, forest vines and other flowers.
The small mountain brooks with glittering stones invite children to play,  you can take your rest at picnic places with laid out fire woods, which particularly invites families to have a barbecue.

At the end of May the Muottas Muragl train starts to operate. The way from Pontresina to Alp Languard is well accessible, the way in shady places is cleared from snow remainderes. Along the way you can observe ibixes and chamois. Again and again you have new views down on the Engadiner lakes districs, into valleys with glaciers and on fourthound meters high mountains.
Or you experience a romantic sunset in the mountain restaurant with Live music and following dinner.
A ride to the sunrise on the Lagalb or a led glacier tour from the Diavolezza to Morteratsch loosens the program up.Hiking boots and (ski-) sticks are helpful.
There are different subscribtions for indivduals and families of Rhaetische Train, the mountain railways or bus. For families there are reductions. At the end of the 3th October week the last mountain railway stops operating.

 

Visti the National Park and the Museum

National Park
There is a National Park in the Underengadin, beginning at S-chanf (app.12 km from St. Moritz) with the gamerich Val Trupchun. There you can watch ibex, chamois, deer, eagles and marmot. In Zernez is the national park museum. Starting at the Ofenpass there are well marked hiking trails to the game observation points and the meadows of Edelweiss national park.

Observe Game by your holiday

In May/June you can watch the game in the valleys or at sunny hillsides. Very often you can observe the deer at a very close distance.
Beginning of June the fawns are born.
In July/August till the middle of September you will find the game in higher altitudes, after that period of time they move back down to the valleys.
In October there is rufting season. In this time you can observe them at the Val Trupschun and in the Val Bever.

There you can take a look at the romanesque culture.

Chalandarmarz is an old custom

Chalandarmarz
Chalandarmarz is an old custom which dates back to the Roman times. On March 1st the “wicked winter spirits” are to be driven up to the mountains so that spring will come one again to the valley. This is accomplished by making as much noise as possible – a tsk gladly taken on by the local school children with their Swiss cow bells and cracking whips.

Combination train ride and hiking

Combination train ride and hiking
-hikes from Alp Grüm to Cavaglia or to the valley of Poschiavo
-from Selva to Le Prese (lake) or Poschiavo to return by train
-from underneath Bernina pass, starting at Sfazü to the Val Viola past several clear,
blue mountain lakes to the Alp Camp.
-the hike can be shortend by use of the post office bus (booking neccessary)
-the hike can be expanded up to an Italian mountain hut, where brunch is served daily.
